Long Time, No Shoe

What a categoristic post! Blog, Life, Masked Media, and Web, eh? Well… lets just say I plan on adding a new category soon :P. Know what that means? I thought so. Anyway… whats going on in my life. The laptop has been on the fritz for the past week, and I am still, oh.. $1400 off from my new iMac. I hope my parents get really rich quick so I can get one. So, if I don’t post anytime soon… my computer died.

Now, Masked Media. Well, I have successfully found a host for the site, actually finished a design I might use, and am in the process of setting up some forums (so far I have SMF and phpBB installed). Problem? I can’t make skins in either software because I don’t know how the whole system works. IPB I can do, this stuff I can’t. darkCom maybe? No.

Now, what is this Web thing for? Well, its for the new category I plan on adding soon. As many of you know, I like doing several things at once (even girls, lol, kidding…), so working on Masked Media and something else wouldn’t be a big shock. I am working on something. What? Try and guess… but lets just say it is for the web.

What’s Up For This Week

Well, first off, I have a blister on my toe from runing. We ran quite a ways today. One day I will show you via Google Maps how far we usually run. Anyways, what’s up for this weeks episode of w3bc4st. I made a list which I probably will change:

- Masked Media Site, Description, Features
- Google Sky – See the Universe
- Apple Removes ‘Can’t be to thin’ from advertising campaign
- Pownce: A Review
- YoYo Games – In Depth

As I said, it probably will change. Anyway, I plan on recording Saturday, iTunes Monday, and on the Masked Media site when it launches. As for the other shows, I don’t know. People need to coordinate things!

Why These 2 Web 2.0 Websites Will Fail

Well, I spent a few hours today on two Web 2.0 websites I have been invited to use and try. The first is the YoYo Games Beta site. The second is Pownce. Let’s analyze these (this is w3bc4st episode 1′s main article).

YoYo Games - Face it. People like being famous. Thats why Game Maker purchaser YoYo Games (abbreviated YYG) created the website, known as, you guessed it, YoYo Games (Beta). So, what can you do on the site? Well, you can submit your Game Maker games, whether they be completed or a work in progress. What formats? .EXE and .ZIP. What about screen shots? Sure! Except they have to be viewed in shitty low size and resolution versions, because they are too cheap to add a gallery view for full size display. So, why will it fail? Well, they have absolutely no game requirements, except that they have to be made in Game Maker. That means no quality control. That’s where it fails. YYG advertises the site as a place to play games, and the forum (http://forums.yoyogames.com) is about game discussion, not coding. They left that on the GMC. The issue? Well, people are going to see maybe 100-150 great games, the rest are shit. Who wants to play a shitty game besides the loser who created it? That’s the thing. Once traffic increases, people will start seeing past the good games and into the land of Web Poop.

Pownce – So, you know Kevin Rose? The creator of Digg and one of the founders of Revision3? You know, the drunk douche bag dip shit from Diggnation. Well. he has hired some gay programmers to make a new website called Pownce. It sucks. The motto, ‘Send Stuff to Your Friends’ is just plain gay. I don’t send ‘stuff’ to my friends. Here is what you can send, and what I can send it with:

Music – Windows Live or AIM

Photos – ImageShack, Pix Hoster, etc.

Messages – Uh.. Instant Message? AIM, Windows Live, Yahoo! Oh yea, cell phone text… and you could always just call the asshole.

Links – Instant Message

Events – Now this is just stupid. Its like saying ‘I’m having a party’ on the phone, and using this gay application to tell them when and where, because your a lazy asshole who can’t tell them four extra words.

Lets look at the other elements of Pownce (which should be spelled Pounce, but once again, gay developers). The web profile is retarded. You can posts either public or private notes on your page, which can effectively be viewed by the public or only your friends. To me, sending a private note is so retarded seeing as though you are sending them a message on the desktop client anyway. So, why will Pownce fail? It’s just another dip shit idea from Kevin Rose, first off. Secondly, no one needs a special application to send stuff with. I mean, if it can send food, I will re-download. Until then, all that Pownce is is just a shitty Web 2.0 idea.

A Little Housekeeping

Well, most noticeable improvement of the CLOG is the fact that the motto below the CLOG title is now easier to read. A few other things include changing some fonts, and adding the new links section. As for making this a darkLog, I don’t know. I might make one for people to post on to test it out. I like WordPress, though.
