Why Steve Jobs May Not See MacWorld 2009

Let’s face it. Apple went from topping $200 a share in January, before MacWorld, to just $120 as I right this post. In less than two months, Apple’s share price has dropped over $80 USD. 80! People say that it is just a phase, and Apple will get out of it. I mean, who doesn’t want one of those new flashy Apple TV’s? A MacBook Air you say? Give me three (not really, though). I believe that the share drop is in part caused by one man’s idea. Release a new/updated product every couple of weeks. Who is this person? The one and only Steve Jobs. If the iPhone is the Jesus phone, than Steve Jobs is the God.

Yesterday Apple released its new revisions to its MacBook and MacBook Pro lines. How big of a revision? If you want faster specs, then now is the time to buy. Otherwise, your in a puddle of shit. The only major update to the design was on the MacBook Pro, which got a nice little Multi-touch trackpad added on. That’s it. The MacBook, which is the most popular Apple product besides the iPod, only got a speed boost. Come on Apple! People have been waiting for notebook updates for the past 6 months, and all you give us after all this time is a speed boost and shitty Multitouch?

Apple has a way of being a big faggot too. “Ohh Emm Gee! An iPod with touch controls!!!11!!! I’m going to buy the supreme 16GB one right now!” 5 months later, don’t you feel like an idiot? Apple could have put 32GB of Flash storage in the iPod touch (I could have modded it myself), so why didn’t they? To get assholes who bought the first version in September to get a new one now. Yes, it is double the storage capacity, but it is still minute to my 80GB iPod classic. Oh yea, you also save $20 because you don’t have to buy the new shit applications that come standard on the new ones.

Apple, you seriously need to get your act together. If you keep jerking people around like this, your market share will drop faster than you gained it, in all markets. People may soon realize that an iPod is just a hard drive with software. The iPhone is just a better Blackberry. “Oh, but the iPhone has touch controls!” Guess what idiot, touching a screen isn’t anything new. The Newton had it, my Treo had it, and about every other new cell phone has it. Apple just made it better, and I guess thats all they have been doing, making their shit better, but not the way people want it.

By the way, I am an Apple fan.

Reunions All Around

Ah… what a great time of year! Tech Unplugged turned one year old yesterday (the 23rd), I just found ‘Green Day”s new single (entitled Mother Mary by the Foxboro Hot Tubs, an alias of Green Day), which I have to say, is amazing. If there new album sounds just like this, I have to nominate it for album of the year. Cannot wait for it. Now, about Tech Unplugged (TU). We recorded a total of six episodes, mostly with Andrew and myself, though Steve is in two and Alex is in one. Regardless, with the launch of Masked Media less than two weeks away, and TU being the inspiration for it, I have decided to call a reunion episode of it. Everyone is on board (Alex, Steve, and myself), and I just sent an email to Andrew about it. I assume he will accept, if not, we will have to reschedule since it is a Tuesday night. This is not signaling the return of TU, mind you, just a reunion episode. We may bring it back though, if we get some good feedback. The older episodes are lower quality (both sound quality wise (low bitrate, shitty microphones) and content wise, unless you like to laugh :P). It will depend on what we decide to do. I guess we will see, now won’t we?

I also have some blog news for everyone. First off, I have modified the theme slightly, including the search form, the footer (have a look), and a new sidebar area entitled ‘Song of the Month’, which is exactly what it says. You can go back and check out the archives of songs on the ‘Songs’ page in the header, as well as a ‘Me’ page, which I need to rewrite. I am waiting for Steve to finish a kick ass banner which will replace the stupid ‘Connor’s Blog v2.1′ one I have already. Well, that is about it. By the way, if I start posting random complaints and angry messages, chances are I am getting frustrated with a time limit I imposed on the launch of MM. Well, later.

Trials and Tribunals

So… I have been split about what to do with this blog… is it personal, like the old Clog? Or is it more of a professional log, filled with boring professional stuff? It is a new Clog, except not a Clog at all. You see, I renamed the old Clog to Connor’s Blog, and now this is called Connor’s Blog v2, thus, this is a new blog (aka Clog v3). So let’s talk about my life recently. First off, I know longer have a tech/web development company, at least not now. I am sad to say that after a year for darkTech, the lights went out. That leaves me with 2 failed company projects and nothing ever released. Not a bad record, eh? Phoenix Software (later renamed Phoen Soft) lasted from November 2004 – January 2007. darkTech lasted from February 2007 to February 2008. That is 3 years and 3 months of ‘software development’ companies, and honestly, I need a break. After Masked Media launches (two weeks from today), I am taking a break. Yea, I’ll post on the blog, yes I will record shows, but no coding. My head hurts. I’ll start working on some music pieces that I have long wanted to write, play a lot of Xbox, and get back on the track (which starts the 3rd). I don’t know what I will do afterwords, but I do have some ideas for software I want to develop. I think some industries are too weighed down and corporate, and we definitely need a major shift in user interfaces, because menus are so last century.

In the end I have no clue what the next month will bring. It could be epic, it could be shitty. Who knows, only time will tell.

WordPress 2.5 Beta Upgraded

Just updated to the beta nightly build of WordPress 2.5. They decided to skip 2.4 because they couldn’t reach the milestone in time, and honestly, I think 2.5 rocks. The interface is so much better than the legacy ones that it isn’t even funny. Only have a few issues (which I myself could change), and that is to move categories back to the side of the post where it used to be, and add a box for tags directly below the post, just like in the old version as well. That is it really. I scrubbed the old Masked Media design and am working on a new one. Hopefully I can get done by the 8th, but I have no worries.
